In my History Classes, I start each class with a "Daily Fact" and I try to work my day's lesson around it to a degree. The students really remember the fact I put up about John Lennon's death, the date, and tell them the story behind that tragic day and how he inspired so many of today's musicians; then we listen to "Imagine" and most of them knew the song or had heard it but they never knew who the artist was or his historical significance.....from time to time as the students go through their HS years I will see one of two wear a T-shirt to school with the Beatles on it or Lennon's famous NY Statue of Liberty Pic, and they will smile when we pass in the hall. So I guess from time to time we actually do educate.
